Luke's Blessing Day

What a special day! Mike blessed our little Luke on January 30th and I felt the spirit touch my heart and guide Mike's words as he blessed our baby. I felt so close to my Savior that day, and I felt so grateful for a husband who honors his priesthood, for my beautiful children, and for the opportunity to be their mother and to raise these children of God. All these feelings strengthened my testimony that Heavenly Father loves us and has a plan for us on earth. He has blessed us with families and given us a Savior who died for us so that we can live with our family forever. I love my Savior with all my heart and know that as I read The Book of Mormon I am reading his words that help me each day and guide me to be a better person. I want to strive to be more like my Savior so I can live with him again.

I wanted to record my testimony and my feelings while they are fresh in my mind about that day. I was a little sad that we couldn't bless Luke with all of our family there, but I felt so grateful for our friends in Texas as I watched Phil, Steve, Mike B. and Kris walk up to join Mike in the circle to bless Luke. Mike gave a beautiful blessing and in it blessed Luke that those who had come before him would watch over him and protect him all of his life. Luke was perfect through the whole thing. Then, during the sacrament, Luke began to fuss so I took him out in the hall. As I waited for the bread and water, I tried to distract Luke by showing him the picture of Christ blessing the children and teaching the Nephites after He was resurrected. Luke stopped crying and started smiling and gooing at the picture more than I had ever heard him talk. I know he recognized Jesus and was talking to him. It also seemed like angels were close by watching over Luke right then and he was talking to them too. Tears ran down my cheeks as I felt so close to my Savior and to my Grandma and Grandpa Warnick, who have passed away. As I talked to Mike, he told me that he had also felt really close to his Grandparents during the blessing and through the sacrament, and he had felt like maybe they had been there even if our family in Utah couldn't be. It was another testament to me that God loves us and is aware of our needs on earth, and He wants us to live righteously so we can return to live with Him. I'm so grateful that our sweet baby had this special priesthood blessing.

Luke slept most of the day after that. It seemed like he too had felt the spirit and it's calming influence. Later that night, we had our friends the Barlows, Jensons, and the Whites over for dessert. It was so nice to have them over and realize how blessed we are to have moved to Texas to have all of them in our lives. Luke was surrounded by all his little friends who adore him and was the star for the evening. It was a good day.

Bath Time for Baby

Luke LOVES his bath! At first, Luke wasn't too sure about bath time, but now he absolutely loves it. Even if he's crying before his bath, once he gets in the warm water it immediately calms him down and he loves every minute of it. We've started bathing him at night before bed, and it has been wonderful. He's even started sleeping through the night!! That makes for a happier baby and a much happier momma. : )

Savannah's Little Buddy

Savannah loves her little brother. She loves to play with him and make him smile. She is my best little helper with Luke. Savannah will hold him and pack him around even if he's already half her size. She'll walk and walk with him when he gets fussy until he falls asleep. I'm soooooooo glad to have such a good BIG sister! : )

Not to be out done . . .

Makayla and Logan think their little brother is pretty great too.

First Smiles

Happy New Year!
At exactly 1 month old, on New Year's Day, Luke smiled his first "big" smile at Makayla. He had been smiling in his sleep and smiling little cute smiles since he was a week old, but waited until the new year to melt our hearts with this sweet smile. What a cutie!

A Bumbo Smile. Luke loves his Bumbo chair.

7 weeks old. A handsome smile for his photo shoot on his first Sunday to church.

Gooing smiles at his mobile. Luke talks to his little guys like they are real animals. He loves the mobile hanging over his crib.

Christmas Break with Grandma Jackie

Just after Christmas, my Mom came to the rescue to see baby Luke. Mike and I were both relieved as we were running on no sleep, and the kids were super excited to have Grandma here. It was so nice to have mom here to help fix dinners, do dishes, clean up the house and just be here with us. I don't know if it's because I'm older or because this is baby #4, but this baby has been harder for me to bounce back from. Maybe it's because we are busier running big kids everywhere and we are learning how to drag the baby along for the ride. It took a little getting used to so it was wonderful to have mom here to help us out.

We also had lots of fun while Grandma was here. We made it out to a Christmas SeaWorld for the afternoon and to Rudy's for dinner. Yum! We also took several walks around the neighborhood in the beautiful 60-70* weather, which Mom thought was heaven compared to freezing Utah. Mom and I also got to hit La Cantera mall and Target, our favorite thing to do--shop! : ) We celebrated a Happy New Year and let Makayla and Logan stay us until midnight, and Mike and I got to go out for our anniversary while Mom watched the baby and the big kids. Thank You, Mom for a wonderful visit and for helping us survive life with our new little baby.

Bunny Ears! Baby Luke is just one of the gang rolling along in his stroller. Logan loves to play with his little brother, and Luke seems to love all the attention.

Playing with Grandma at the park after our walk. Makayla, Logan, and Savannah had fun racing us on their scooters. Luke looks like he enjoyed the walk too. . .

Happy New Year!

Such a fun trip. We miss you, Mom!

Merry Christmas from the Manwarings

Didn't you get the memo?? Christmas is in February this year. : ) It almost was at the Manwaring house since we had all our Christmas up until last weekend and our Christmas lights are still hanging proudly in our trees. Some things have had to slide to the bottom of the priority list with baby number 4. A prime candidate for this was Christmas cards, so pretend with me that this cute card just arrived in the mail for you. . .

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!
With Love,
The Manwaring Family

Christmas morning

Baby Luke's first Christmas present. Savannah was all too eager to help him out with the opening.

Luke loved watching the kids open all their presents and got excited with all the commotion and happy shouts of glee going on. He thought he was just one of the big kids in the middle of it all--until he wore himself out . . .

It was so nice to have a quiet Christmas this year with our new baby. I took a 2 hour nap that afternoon on the couch while the kids played the Wii and didn't hear a thing. I guess Luke and I were both wiped out, as Mike's mad photography skills captured.

Merry Christmas!
