Springtime is in the air . . .

Warm sun, blue skies and cool breezes = ROADTRIP Saturday!!!

The outdoors have been calling to us as the weather warms and we become ever more ready for the lazy days of summer. A couple weekends ago, we packed up the kids and headed to Guadalupe River State Park for an afternoon spent soaking in the sun and fishing on the river. On our way there, we found the cutest little General Store on our quest for worms. The Bergheim General Store was established in 1903 and had such a fun oldtime western feel to it. We had fun exploring the store before we continued on to the river.

This was the original cash register when the store opened.

The store was built in connection with the towns old post office. Andreas Engel, the store owner, was also the postmaster back then. His family has kept the store going as part of their pioneer heritage.

Mike has been looking forward to fishing on the river for a while. He and Logan had fun fishing while the girls enjoyed wading in the freezing water and searching for minnows. I was content to relax on the shore with a book in my hand.

Snow in Texas??!

What the??! Yes. We had snow in Texas last week! This is pretty much a novelty for us, so when Savannah and I saw big snow flakes floating outside our window, we rushed outside to see the snow. This was pretty much it . . . but it made for an exciting afternoon! : )

Snow in Utah!

Playing in the snow in Utah, on the other hand, is a little bit different. There's lots of it! And it lasts all winter. This is one good reason to live in Texas--visit just long enough to enjoy the snow for a couple weeks, and then head home. We did have a blast sledding and 4-wheeling while we were in Utah.

The best part of sledding was uncle Brandon's Extreme Sled that he rigged up to pull us behind his 4-wheeler. Pulling the kids, Brandon made sure big smiles were on faces as he rounded corners and went easy on the bumps.

Pulling the grown ups . . . was a different story. At one point, I thought Mike and I might die as the sled flipped flying around a sharp corner. A bone-chilling scream filled the air as I landed in a heap in the snow.

15 Years!

While we were in Utah over Christmas, Mike and I celebrated our 15 year anniversary on Dec. 22. I'm so lucky to be married to such an amazing man who I love more each day!

We were really happy this year to celebrate our anniversary on the actual day because we usually spend it driving to Utah. It was so nice to slip away for a night together. (Thanks, Jeanette and Brandon for watching the kids: )

We enjoyed an evening of walking the downtown streets of SLC ending at the Gateway. It was the perfect night for strolling along the shops, sipping hot chocolate and watching the snowflakes slowly fall and melt as they hit the warm cup in my hands. Afterwards, we ate an incredible dinner at Thaifoon and enjoyed it all the more knowing we were not in a hurry to get home to the kids, but that a nice hotel was waiting for us after dinner.

A very Happy Anniversary for me!

For the BIG #15, we decided to get a piano. We lucked into this 1920 something Baby Grand Piano and got it for a steel from a friend of Mike's at work. I have wanted a piano ever since we got married, and I have always wanted a baby grand, so I was overjoyed to find this one. It needs to be tuned and is definitely old, but has a certain character about it that I love. I've started playing again, and Makayla started lessons this year. It's so nice to have music in our home.
